about Nora's secret of taking out a loan to save her husbands life
coming back to her . All throughout the play Nora has
escalated her situation of trying to keep her secret from reaching
her husband Trovald. However, the news of Nora's secret reaches
her husband and he reacts poorly to this news. At the end when
Nora's secret is not going to cause her any more issues, her
husband forgives her. On the other hand, Nora did not forgive her
husband because at the end she leaves her husband and kids
because she realizes that she was being treated like a doll. Nora
was treated like a doll by her father and he just passed her down to
Trovald. At he end Nora leaves to find herself and the play ends
with the door closing behind her.
Analysis of A Doll's House
Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House was very controversial when it
came to the people's opinion in society during his time. The reason
the play was such an issue is because of Nora's final actions at the
end of the play with her leaving her husband. This was an issue
because it had challenged the roles of men and women in society.
During this time period men and women each held a specific role.
Men where the bread winners, they had control of he money so
that meant they help the power within the house hold. While,
women were suppose to be caregivers and cook and clean.
However, Nora's role in the play showed women in a different
light. In the play Nora like Trovald also held some power. Nora
held power because she was able to live her double life of
secrecy and make her own decisions. This play went against the
traditional value of a model life between husband and wife. The
ending of the play with Nora leaving and closing the door was also
important because it represents Nora's new life and the ending of
her old one. The ending of the play showed women at this time
period that women had the right to make decisions to find
themselves and not live by societies rules. With this play I believe
it help give women some respect from their husbands because the
men felt threatened that they would end up like Trovald.
